That’s right, today is the day to appreciate your employer.
When I searched online to see if this was actually a thing, I got:
“Did you mean Employee Appreciation Day?”
No, actually, I did not.
Employers are easy targets for vilification.
But let’s face reality for a moment.
Your employer makes your cozy suburban lifestyle possible.
You put in your 40-hour week, you take home your commensurate paycheck.
Bam.
Simple as that.
I know, a lot of you think you could do a better job than your employer.
But the reality is that you can’t, and you won’t even try.
Why?
Because it’s way harder, way riskier, and way scarier than you could possibly conceive, having never done it before.
A business owner puts in their 80-100 hour week having no guarantee of any kind of compensation.
In fact, for new businesses the odds are overwhelmingly against them ever making a dime for the ridiculous hours they work.
They take on all of the uncertainty, the risk, and the incredible stress of competing for business in the marketplace.
While you gripe and complain about your steady paycheck and get your very own Appreciation Day for showing up to collect it.
So next time you’re about to gripe, remember that you don’t have what it takes to start your own business and make it on your own, and say a little prayer of thanks for the employer that took on this crazy risky marketplace so you can plan your neat little life around your paycheck.
Or else get out there, start your own business and hire some griping employees of your own.
Bet you don’t!
