You’re an Idiot. And I can prove it.

The cold hard fact is that you’re an idiot.

And I’m going to prove it to you right now.

Ready?

Let’s take a little thought journey.

Think back to when you were half your current age.

So if you’re 32, think back to when you were 16.

What brilliant life decisions were you making?

How much did you know about anything?

Compared to what you know now, would you say, oh, maybe… you were pretty much an idiot?

Yeah.

Ok, let’s continue.

Split the age difference, so halfway between 16 and 32 in my example is 24.

How much did you know then?

Think you might make some different choices given the wisdom you’ve gained since?

Yeah, I thought so.

You were still an idiot.

So, do you think this process ends at some point?

That you stop getting smarter, wiser, learning more about life?

Nope.

The fact is, ten years from now you’re going to realize that, in comparison, you were an idiot today.

Bam.

You’re an idiot.

Told ya.

  1. My mom says I shouldn’t call any of God’s perfect creation an idiot, so I figured I should explain to my readers, assuming I actually have some of those and that anyone actually reads comments. 🙂

This is not intended as an insult.

It’s a message of hope. You’re continuing to grow and become wiser.

It’s also a reminder to stay humble. You don’t know it all, and you never will.

It seems paradoxical, but humility is the secret to attaining wisdom.

Pride and arrogance are obstacles that impede us from being open and teachable and ultimately, from achieving our wisdom potential.

In fact, it’s my largely unresearched and unsubstantiated opinion that pride and the fear of being labeled an idiot, not the hardening of neural pathways, is the major contributor to the slowdown in the adult learning and creative processes.

So, just accept the fact that we’re all idiots, let the humility of it all wash over you, become more childlike and teachable, and unleash your wisdom potential.

    Word of the day. 🙂
