Yesterday I finally made it to the Petrified Forest National Park where I’ve been wanting to see the Painted Desert.
I didn’t realize that historic Route 66 used to run right through the park.
As I was standing on an overlook admiring the view of an entire valley filled with petrified wood, I noticed a photo of John Muir down in the valley right in the thick of things.
John Muir!
His name is all over sights in the Pacific Northwest.
For some reason, I didn’t imagine that he would have explored the Southwest as well.
I’m so jealous of this guy who got to experience all of these amazing things close up before they were paved, roped off and swarmed by tour buses.
I’m going to have to find out more about him.
